This seminar addresses the challenges of desire for food and sexual desires. Being able to control one’s desires is key to changing our condition with Allah, acquiring mindfulness of Allah (taqwa), and attaining closeness and love of Allah.

Learn practical strategies to navigate and transcend these fundamental desires, guided by the wisdom of Imam Ghazali.


Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the importance of controlling one’s desires (nafs) and lust (shahwa) in Islam.
  • Appreciate the consequence of controlling our desires in becoming a person of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah), and of those beloved to Allah.
  • Acquire a key toolkit from the Quran, the Sunna of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the scholarly wisdom of Imam Ghazali on how to control one’s desires.
  • Appreciate the virtue and benefits of having restraint, good habits, and following the Sunna of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
