Islamic Studies Curriculum

A clear, systematic five-level program in the classical Islamic sciences, taught by qualified, specialized scholars, in a convenient, interactive manner, completely free.

The curriculum is a full model of Islamic studies. It is taught by classically trained scholars.

The program leads students from essentials of belief and practice through understanding, reasoning, and applied scholarship to mastery and specialization.

It emphasizes depth, clarity, and the ability to teach and guide reliably.

Value and promise

The curriculum offers reliable, practical learning you can use in life and service, and that will equip you to both (a) grow in your religious understanding and practice and to (b) become equipped to teach others.

Courses use core classical texts.

Teachers are classically trained and available for mentorship, office hours, live Q&A, and forum interaction.

Study is online and self-paced.

All course material and ongoing support are provided free of charge.

Successful students receive verified certificates for courses and for each level after assessed examination and, where appropriate, direct oral testing. This structure makes the curriculum both accessible and rigorous.

Assessment and certification
  • Course certificate. Complete all lessons, lesson quizzes, and the course final to qualify.
  • Level certificate. After completing a level's required courses, apply for the level certificate. SeekersGuidance verifies completion and administers a written exam. For competencies that require oral proof (for example, recitation or oral mastery), the process includes direct oral testing with a teacher. Passing the assessments grants the level certificate; unsuccessful candidates may reapply after preparation. This model is established in Level 1 procedures and extends to subsequent levels.

Learning Arabic

Learn Arabic language effectively

The Clear Learning Arabic Program teaches living Arabic together with the practical tools needed to read Quranic and classical texts.

We use the recognized al-Arabiyya Bayna Yadayk textbook series.

Each module is taught by qualified experts in teaching Arabic as a second language in an Islamic context.

Like all SeekersGuidance offerings, the Program is completely free.

The curriculum is three levels. It is structured and sequenced for non-native learners. The aim is proficiency in practical Arabic and the skills to be able to access the classical Islamic texts, and begin understanding the Quran and Sunna.

This pathway is separate from our Mastering Arabic Program, which focuses on deep study of nahw (grammar), sarf (morphology), and balagha (rhetoric).

Value and promise

This program gives two linked capabilities: clear ability in living Arabic, and the practical tools to approach classical texts.

You will learn to listen, read, and write. You will learn morphology and syntax in the service of reading Quran, Hadith, and classic Islamic texts, as well as the living Arabic you need to study and communicate in Arabic.

Teachers are specialist Arabic instructors who bridge modern standard Arabic and classical Islamic Arabic.

The program is online, self-paced, and free.

It includes forums for questions and engagement, tutorial sessions, live Q&A, and mentoring.

Committed students may access free one-to-one tutoring through Seekers' Office Hours. These features make this Curriculum both accessible and rigorous.

Textbook

We use al-Arabiyya Bayna Yadayk (العربية بين يديك) as the core coursebook. The book is designed for non-native learners. It trains all four skills and includes audio. It is well suited to the program’s step-by-step approach to fluency and to bridging to classical texts.

  • Achieve functional proficiency in living Arabic.
  • Read and understand classical Islamic texts with practical tools.
  • Prepare students for Arabic-medium lectures and for further study — including the Mastering Arabic track.

At the end of each level students who meet the program standards receive a verified Certificate.
