Introduction

As the crescent of Ramadan beckons, we gather to reflect upon a divine reminder. We find inspiration in a profound verse from the Quran, Sura Al-Hadid, verse 16: “Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened, and many of them are defiantly disobedient.”

The Essence of Time and Submission

This verse calls upon us, believers, to awaken and soften our hearts towards the remembrance of Allah (Most High) and the truth that He has revealed. It is a divine invitation to introspection and renewal of faith, especially as we stand on the brink of Ramadan, a month dedicated to reflection, prayer, and connection with Allah.

The mention of those before us, whose hearts hardened over time despite receiving divine scripture, is a stark warning. It reminds us of the dangers of complacency and neglect in our spiritual practice. As we anticipate Ramadan, let this moment be the turning point where we recommit ourselves to Allah (Most High) with a renewed sense of purpose and humility.

Preparing for Ramadan Through Softening of Hearts

Preparing for Ramadan is not just about physical abstention from food and drink; it is fundamentally about softening our hearts and reviving our souls. The verse from Sura Al-Hadid challenges us to reflect on whether our hearts have become hardened over time and to take proactive steps towards spiritual softening.

This preparation involves engaging in increased dhikr (remembrance of Allah), contemplating the Quran, and seeking forgiveness for our shortcomings. Let us approach Ramadan with malleable hearts, receptive to divine guidance, and ready to be transformed by the experience of fasting, prayer, and charity.

The Role of the Quran in Softening Our Hearts

The Quran, revealed in the blessed month of Ramadan, is the ultimate source of guidance and a means to soften our hearts. Allah (Most High) describes the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers (Sura Al-Isra, 17:82). Engaging with the Quran during Ramadan through recitation, reflection, and implementation of its teachings is vital in achieving the humility and submission mentioned in Sura Al-Hadid.

Let us commit to making the Quran an intimate companion during Ramadan and beyond, allowing its profound verses to penetrate our hearts, dismantle our pride, and guide us to the straight path.

Embracing Acts of Worship and Good Deeds

Sura Al-Hadid’s call for a softened heart is a call to action. It invites us to fill our days and nights with acts of worship and good deeds that bring us closer to Allah (Most High). This Ramadan, let us strive to enhance our prayers, give generously in charity, and fast with sincerity and devotion.

Moreover, let us not neglect the power of du’a, especially during the nights of Qadr, seeking Allah’s forgiveness, mercy, and guidance. May our worship be a means to soften our hearts and purify our souls, aligning us with the divine will.

Conclusion

“The Time Has Come” for us to heed the call of Sura Al-Hadid, to awaken and humble our hearts before Allah (Most High) as we enter the blessed month of Ramadan. This is a golden opportunity for spiritual revival, a chance to return to our Lord with hearts full of love, submission, and obedience.

As we prepare to embrace the month of Quran and fasting, let us do so with a clear intention to transform ourselves and cultivate a heart that is soft, receptive, and connected to Allah (Most High). May Allah grant us the ability to reach and benefit from Ramadan, and may our acts of worship be accepted. Ameen.

Together, let us embark on this sacred journey with hearts turned towards Allah, eager to embrace Ramadan's endless blessings and mercy. May this be a time of profound spiritual renewal and growth for all of us.
