Wa alaikum salaam,

The Prophetic sayings are indeed a type of inspired knowledge (revelation). One of the Companion would write down everything that the Prophet ﷺ said. Others told him not to do so because people get anger and say things that they don't mean to say. Due to this the companion stopped writing. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace) asked him why he stopped and told him to continue to write down (His ﷺ sayings). He ﷺ said, "Write. For nothing comes from this (He pointed to His mouth) except the truth."

The objection of the other companions relates to the idea of 'huwa' or whims. People speak without intent many times due to their emotions and whims, however, this is not so for the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace).

You are right. This is indeed a proof for the importance and authoritative nature of the Prophet Hadith.

Good question
Allah bless you
Yusuf
